Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of modern education, and India is at the forefront of this technological revolution. According to recent figures revealed by Union Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, a staggering number of students have enrolled in AI courses at both the secondary and senior secondary levels.  

Secondary Level Surge:

  • Enrollment: Approximately 7,90,999 students from 4,538 schools have opted for AI courses in Classes IX and X for the 2024-25 academic session.  
  • Curriculum: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced AI as a 15-hour foundational module in Class VIII and a skill subject for Classes IX to XII.  

Senior Secondary Level Growth:

  • Enrollment: A significant number of 50,343 students from 944 schools have chosen AI courses in Classes XI and XII.  
  • Focus: The AI curriculum aims to cultivate a deep understanding of AI concepts and their practical applications in various fields.

Government Support and Vision:

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the importance of equipping students with 21st-century skills, including AI and machine learning. The government's commitment to fostering AI education is evident in its initiatives to provide necessary infrastructure and training to schools.

As AI continues to reshape industries and societies, India's focus on AI education positions the country as a global leader in technology and innovation. By nurturing a generation of AI-savvy individuals, India is poised to harness the full potential of this transformative technology
